Here for Tomorrow
Our Journey to B Corporation Certification
Our B Corp certification speaks to our dedication to sustainability, ethical practices, and social responsibility. It's a reflection of our promise to pursue a positive impact on our planet and communities as we balance profit with purpose. You can learn more about B Corp certification here.
We are proudly Carbon Neutral, and have been since 2019
For the past 4 years, we have fully been measuring our carbon footprint, and fully offsetting them through investing in carbon credits. In total, we have contributed $237,857 AUD, offsetting 15,323 tCO2e of carbon footprint. You can learn more about Climate Neutral certification here.
But we do not stop there
As we grow and deliver more products to our valued community, our carbon footprint is also likely to increase. This is why we also put a big focus on our reduction strategy so that we can gradually decrease the proportion of our footprint we need to offset through carbon credits. As a product business, it’s not surprising that more than 90% of our emission comes from manufacturing and delivering the products to our customers.
Our Environmental Management System
This is where our Environmental Management System plays a big role in our reduction strategy - it outlines our commitment to minimise our environmental footprint, bolster sustainability, and uphold a holistic approach to our products' lifecycle to mitigate environmental effects. Here is a link to it.
Better Than Yesterday
We hold our suppliers accountable to meet our sustainability requirements
We prioritise working with suppliers who have agreed to our Supplier Code of Conduct - 98.84% of our suppliers as of 2023. We’re proud that many of the suppliers that we have worked with since the beginning have joined us on our sustainability journey.
One of the main requirements outlined is for our suppliers to have regular Compliance audits by reputable auditors such as SMETA and BSCI. As of 2023, 80.41% of our manufacturing expenditures are allocated to suppliers who hold active Social Compliance certifications and we are working on increasing the number to 90% by 2024.
Building products that last
Each one of our products is designed and engineered in-house and we put a lot of hours and thought into creating products that you’ll love for a long time to come. Additionally, to ensure that our products are constructed to the best possible standards, 82.34% of our manufacturing expenditures are allocated to suppliers who hold an active ISO-9001 quality certification. We are working on increasing it to 85% by 2024.
A better method of transporting our goods
One of our biggest emissions contributions is the way we transport our products to our customers. We’re proud that we’ve achieved a reduction of 13.7% Tonne Mile Percentage between 2021 and 2022 as we prioritise land and sea shipments over air.
Choosing Recycled & Certified Materials.
We always prioritise the use of recycled materials whenever it’s possible to do so without impacting the quality/longevity of our products. In instances where recycled options aren't feasible, we pivot towards certified materials. These sustainability certifications guarantee that our production and supply chain practices uphold rigorous environmental and social standards.
LWG-Certified leather
All of the leather used in our products is sourced from LWG-certified tanneries, meaning that the manufacturer has been assessed and certified by an independent organisation for the environmental performance of leather manufacturing. Learn more about LWG Certification here.
FSC recycled paper
Where possible, we prioritise paperless business practices. When we do utilise paper, however, we only use FSC-certified recycled paper.
A word from our co-founders.
Hi there,
We’re glad you’ve dropped by.
At the heart of Orbitkey, we're a product design company with a passion for innovation and creating the best user experiences with our products. To be frank, when we started Orbitkey, we were so focused on delivering the best quality product that we didn’t have the capacity or know-how to focus on much else.
But our world is changing, and so are we. As we and our product range grew, we started to think about our long-term goals and what type of company we would be proud to be a part of. We are here for the long run, and we know a big part of that is doing our part and achieving growth through sustainable practices, and balancing purpose with profit.
As a recently certified B Corporation, we’re proud to join a global community of companies using business as a force for good. This certification reflects our commitment to social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
For the last few years, we’ve been making small but meaningful changes to the way we do business. Dive deep into our journey of sustainability and responsibility to understand why it's not just a business move for us, but a heartfelt commitment—to balance growth with protecting our environment, empowering our community, and nurturing our team and partners.
Sincerely,
Rex and Charles,
Nurture Our Village
Nurturing Our Village
We recognise that the success of our collective depends on nurturing each other and our community. We foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and collaboration to bring out the best in our people.
We invest in the growth and development of our team
In the spirit of being better than yesterday, every Orbitkey member has access to an allocated fund, to support their professional and personal development.
Living Wages
While our headquarters is based in Melbourne, our team is spread across the globe including Sydney, Queenstown, Madrid, Jakarta, Manilla, Shenzhen and London. We ensure every team member receives fair compensation exceeding the local living wage. We also require and monitor our suppliers to adopt this wage standard.
Giving back to our community
At Orbitkey, we encourage the team to volunteer their skills and time to create a positive impact on our community. Our team members are given paid volunteer days to support the community of their choice.
Prioritising Well-being.
We try our best to support our people. One of the ways we do this is by offering a yearly health and wellness allowance and an EAP program. Each year, we also take time to focus on health and wellness by conducting team-wide activities. This year we tried our hand at pottery, yoga and sound healing.
What's Next?
We hope the above provides a peek behind the curtains at some of the things that we’re working on at Orbitkey. We’re well aware that there’s much more work to be done, but we’re committed to adopting a long-term view of running a business.
We welcome you to follow and join us on our journey of balancing profit and purpose, as we continue to be guided by our 3 core values of being better than we were yesterday, being here for tomorrow and nurturing our village.
Thank you again for stopping by!
